Volume 1 - The book is the first volume of an organic chemistry course written by an outstanding Romanian organic chemist. The book consists of a general part devoted to the theoretical foundations of organic chemistry, and a special part containing extensive material on hydrocarbons of various classes and their monofunctional derivatives: halide derivatives, alcohols, aldehydes, ketones, acids and their esters and organometallic derivatives. A characteristic feature of the book is that the presentation is based on a systematics according to which hydrocarbons of all classes (paraffin, cyclic, aromatic) are considered in one section and then consideration is based on functions, combining functional derivatives of hydrocarbons of different classes in one section. Much attention in the book is paid to the consideration of practically important substances, reactions and processes.
