With the financial support of Rumyantsev, Berlin in 1814 creates a Plan of ancient Kyiv with explanations about its antiquities and a real work. A brief description of Kyiv. Published in 1820 by the Department of Education in St. Petersburg, this work is considered as the first scientific history of Kyiv, as well as the first detailed description of the ancient churches of Kyiv in book format. The text begins with an overview of the history of the city from its foundation until the 19th century, accompanied by a description of numerous churches in Kyiv, including St. Nicholas Cathedral, St. Basil's Church, St. Elijah's Church, St. Sophia Cathedral and St. George's Cathedral.
