Richard Sorge is one of the most extraordinary intelligence officers ever to work for the Soviet special services. The son of a German and a Russian mother, he graduated from the University of Hamburg and brilliantly defended his doctoral dissertation in political science. At the same time he was a member of the Communist and Nazi parties, in the 30-40s, on the instructions of the Comintern, he headed the Soviet residency in Japan.
