Before the reader, the scientific edition of the novel by Christoph Martin Wieland (1733-1813), first published in 1774, Wieland overcame the clumsiness and scientific bulkiness of the old book language inherited by the Germans from the 17th century. It was satire that was the area of ​ ​ creativity where Wieland knew no equal in German literature of his time. He was an innovator who discovered the previously unknown possibilities of satirical prose. In Wieland's work, German satire acquired a new quality: universal human vice was shown as a social vice, and the grotesque masks of its carriers received lively, individual features. Wieland created a novel of a new type in German literature, where positive and negative theses are embodied not only in reasoning, but also in characters and actions.
