Concepts and laws (foundations) of thermodynamics are presented. Patterns of heat conversion to mechanical work in reversible cycles of gas and steam heat engines, as well as in installations of moderate and deep cold are shown. The necessary information on chemical interactions and phase transitions in the light of the work of D. Gibbs is briefly given.
