Kotovsky's life is amazing. Before the revolution, he was an ataman whose name thundered far beyond his native Bessarabia. Four times he escaped from prison, after the revolution he became a red commander, a legendary hero, a holder of three orders of the Battle Red Banner. He was awarded the highest award of the young republic - an honorary revolutionary weapon - a golden saber.
