The book "Under the Star of David" is dedicated to Jewish youths who sought to create their own state. In 1917, the vast majority of the Jewish population of the former Russian Empire took an active part in revolutionary events. A significant part of Jewish youth entered the Red Guard and received Bolshevik party cards. And only a small number of Jews, mainly from the South and West of Ukraine, took advantage of revolutionary opportunities to raise the issue of resettlement in Palestine - in order to create their own state. Supporters of Jewish statehood - Zionists, collaborated side by side with the leaders of the young Ukrainian republic. As part of the UPR, it was planned to create a national-personal Jewish autonomy, the Ministry of Jewish Affairs functioned, and even armed Zionist detachments were formed. Many Zionists died fighting for their ideals. The survivors in November 1919 took the opportunity and sailed on the Ruslan steamer from Odessa to Palestine. In fact, the history of the state of Israel began with the passengers of Ruslan.
