The book contains a collection of all surviving (in full or in fragments) works of the ancient Greek playwright. Menander is considered the most influential representative of the so-called. New Attic comedy. Only one of his more than 100 comedies has survived completely - Bruzga (still called the Difficult Man or Misanthrope), the main part of the volume contains fragments from more than 80 plays by Menander. The publication was prepared by the famous classical philologist V.N. Yarkho. He also wrote an editorial and notes on the volume. For almost a millennium, Menander's comedies were widely known, they were quoted by the most educated people of their time, and their author was put in second place after Homer. The plays of the ancient playwright were significantly influenced by the work of later playwrights of antiquity and modern times as Plautus, Terence, Moliere, etc.
