The basics of group theoretical analysis of the geometric and electronic structure of molecular systems are presented. The necessary introductions from group theory are given. The apparatus of group theory is considered as the basis for the classification of electronic states of molecules. Application of group theoretical methods to problems of oscillatory and electron spectroscopy is considered. The role of these methods in crystal field theory is shown.
