Lady Rondo (1699-1783), Jane Ward Rondo Vigor, née Goodwin, wife of the English envoy to the Russian court during the reign of Anna Ioannovna, lived in Russia from 1731 to 1739 and addressed letters to her friend who remained in England. Describing her impressions of the Russian state and people close to the court, she paints pictures of Russian life in the second quarter of the 18th century: court entertainment, ceremonies, customs, everyday details, gives interesting facts about the characters of the Empress, Biron, Minich, Anna Leopoldovna, Elizaveta Petrovna, etc. In Russia, letters from Jane Vigor were first published in the journal "Son of the Fatherland" in 1822. The publication includes a document of the 18th century - a note by the English resident Claudius Rondo (1695-1739) "Characters of some Russian nobles" with detailed notes by the historian Yu. V. Tolstoy and a preface by Doctor of Historical Sciences A.V. Sazanov, in which the author provides interesting biographical information about the author of the letters. Book reprint 1874.
