The monograph examines the planning and development of Vitebsk from its inception to the present day. The defense fortifications of the Vitebsk castles of the XIV-XVII centuries, the formation of a public center in the XVIII century, the development of the planning structure of the XIX-XX centuries are indicated. The best architectural monuments of the city are also considered. A separate section is devoted to the achievements of urban planning and architecture of the Soviet period.
