Upon learning of Prussia's intention to declare war on France, Napoleon decided to be the first to strike. His army won at Jena, but the fate of the campaign was decided to the north, where Davout III Corps defeated the main forces of the Prussians, led by King of Prussia Frederick William III and the Duke of Braunschweig.
