Volume I of the Complete Academic History of Vietnam summarizes the main studies in world Vietnamese studies but in the early periods of Vietnamese history and proposes a single periodization of early Vietnamese statehood, including non-Vietnamese states that existed on Vietnamese territory. The volume also traces the mutual influence of the cultures of the Confucian cultural range, including the problem of the emergence and initial development of Contemplation school Buddhism in a single territory of North Vietnam and South China.
