The Battle of Kulikovo, which, according to chronicles, took place on September 8, 1380 on the Kulikovo Field between the Don, Nepryadva and Beautiful Sword rivers, was a decisive battle between Russia and the Horde. His description is devoted to "Zadonshchina" and "The Legend of the Mamaev Massacre," many scientific studies and works of art. Oddly enough, the results of many years of archaeological excavations on the alleged Kulikovo field speak more of an ordinary clash of horse detachments than of the battle of two significant armies.
