The book is part of the world-renowned encyclopedia of modern mathematics "Elements of Mathematics," created by a group of French scientists acting under the collective pseudonym N. Bourbaki. A number of volumes of this encyclopedia have already been published in Russian translation and have been deservedly praised by Soviet scientists. This issue, consisting of two chapters: "Normalized algebras" and "Locally compact commutative groups," compares favorably with other works of N. Burbaki in that it has little connection with other volumes of the treatise, there is no excessive commonality in it. The book is replete with methodological improvements and reflects the most modern results. It is of interest to mathematicians of various specialties - from students to scientists.
