Contemplation Tutor Dōgen (1200-1253) is one of the first Japanese contemplation teachers, Zen, and one of the most active religious leaders of his era. The Eiheiji Temple in Japan, founded by Dogen in 1245, as well as dozens of Buddhist monasteries around the world, still follow the instructions he developed regarding the organization of the life of the Buddhist community.
