The book is a direct reflection of the great experience of Russian artillery. After failures in December 1915 and January 1916, the author of these lines ceased to believe in the success of the attack of fortified positions. Working with Kirey in the summer of 1916, however, dispelled these doubts. He made sure that the conscientious work of artillerymen who spared no labor, who had studied Kirey's book well, would save many from the difficult experiences of unsuccessful breakthroughs and save a lot of human lives.
