The successor of the ancient but impoverished samurai clan Saburo Sakai in World War II became the best pilot in Japan. He participated in more than two hundred air battles and was the only Japanese ace who never lost his wingman in battle. Sakai's flying prowess was legendary. After the worst wound received in 1943, the pilot returned to battle again and went through the entire war until the surrender of Japan.
