The directory includes newspapers, magazines and almanacs published from 1702 to 1894 in Russian. It presents political, public, literary, satirical-humorous and artistic publications that played a role in the socio-political life of their time, characteristic of a particular period in the development of the Russian periodical. Unlike N. M. Lisovsky, the compilers also took into account almanacs and collections of socio-literary content.
