Bakhmut region (basin of the Bakhmut river) has a rich ancient history. From deep times, many tribes lived here, developing independent economic systems, interacting with the natural environment. The peculiarity of the life of the population of the region was facilitated by the fact that the region was located in the Great Belt of the steppes, along which peoples always moved, at the junction of the Right Bank of the Donets, the southern outskirts of the Central Russian Plain, which crossed convenient waterways for travel - Seversky Donets, Bakhmut, Stallion - rivers with a relatively calm current, semi-mountainous Lugan, as well as long watershed land highways stretched along the ridges - watersheds that dry quickly after rains, known in medieval and modern times as Izyum and Bakhmut hats. Grass-grass-feather grass-feather grass steppes, with fertile and diverse soils, floodplain and bayrach forests with game, clean water sources, karst dips with salt rape, outcrops of many minerals (among which in ancient times stone salt, chalk flint, polymetallic ores - copper, antimony, arsenic, silver, gold, lead, iron ore, building and ornamental stones - limestone, sandstone, anhydrite, etc., coal) always attracted people like a magnet. Numerous tribes, peoples of antiquity, developing the region, left behind a variety of monuments, among which the most informative are material and written.
