The study, for which the author was awarded the Demidov Prize and a personal gift from Emperor Nicholas I, covers the period from the birth of Russia to 1492. Based on the last word of historical science at the beginning of the 19th century, it still remains one of the most scrupulous, and, unfortunately, few studies on the economic history of the Russian Middle Ages.
