Can we unconditionally trust our feelings and what we see? Since Homo sapiens appeared on earth, natural selection has favored a distorted perception of reality to sustain life and reproduction. How can it be possible that the world we see is not an objective reality? We see a car speeding, but we don't run across the road in front of it; we see mold on bread, but we don't eat it. According to the author, all these impressions are not an objective reality. The consequences of this perception are huge: fashion designers sew more perceptually pleasing silhouettes, and advertising campaigns use certain colors to capture our attention. Only by distorting reality can we move around the world easily and safely. Donald David Hoffman is an American cognitive psychologist and author of non-fiction books. He is a professor in the Department of Cognitive Sciences at the University of California, combining work in the departments of philosophy and logic. His research in perception, evolution and consciousness won the US National Academy of Sciences' Troland Award.
