The essays on documentary, literary and field materials cover the history, ethnography, anthropology, folklore of the Bashkir population of the Kurgan region. A significant part of the field materials was collected in 1997 by a scientific expedition of the Institute of History, Language and Literature of the Ufa Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences, undertaken at the initiative of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Bashkortostan.
