The volume includes selected works of the famous statesman, historian, philosopher and economist of the second half of the 18th century, Prince M. M. Shcherbatov (1733-1790). Having held for more than twenty years a variety of positions at the Court and in the public administration system of Catherine's Russia (deputy of the Laid Commission of 1767-1768, member of the Commission on Commerce and the Medal Committee, herald master, chamberlain, president of the Chamber College and senator), he took part in solving a variety of issues of internal management of the empire. Shcherbatov's activities as a historiographer and publisher of historical documents gained the greatest fame. Thanks to the post of historiographer, who opened access to the richest collections of the Moscow Archive of the College of Foreign Affairs, the Discharge Archive, the Patriarchal Library, the prince was able to start writing the greatest work in his life and one of the most significant in the history of historical science of the 18th century - "Russian History from Ancient Times."
