Boplan "revealed" Ukraine to the world as an independent political and cultural phenomenon at the height of the liberation war in Ukraine under the leadership of Bogdan Khmelnitsky (the first edition of the book was published in 1651). He also compiled the first maps of all Ukraine (General map of 1648, special - the first topographic military map of 1650) and the Dnieper.
