Giulietto Chiesa was born on September 4, 1940 in Akui Terme, Italy. In 1980-1989 worked as a correspondent for the Italian newspaper Unita in Moscow. In 1989-1990 worked in Washington, USA, at the Woodrow Wilson International Center at the J. Kennan Institute for Advanced Russian Studies. Since September 1990, he has been a special correspondent and political columnist for the La Stampa newspaper. J. Chiesa is the author of nine books translated into the main languages ​ ​ of the world. "Transition to Democracy" (1993), "Farewell to Russia" (1997) were published in Russian. The new book is a continuation of the author's previous work, Farewell to Russia. Some of the chapters are reports, revised specifically for this publication, devoted to the analysis of the internal situation in Russia and the study of relations between Russia and the world community at the turn of the millennium.
