"Lives of Sophists" is one of the four extant collections of ancient Greek biographies, still published in Russian only in excerpts: he completed this collection in 237238 AD e. Flavius ​ ​ Philostratus was the most famous representative of the literary family of Philostrates, who left us a solid and diverse collection of sophistic prose, created over a century and a half, in II-III centuries n. e., when the dominant kind of literature was sophistry. The family collection of works "All Philostrates All" will be published in full, volume by volume, with a Greek parallel and a proper apparatus, however, it is useful to begin acquaintance with the works of Philostrates with the "Lives of the Sophists" - to get a closer look at the sophists of Roman times, which included Flavius ​ ​ Philostratus himself, and other Philostrates, no matter how many of them there are.
