"The Road to Hel" was published in 1943 and was a real storehouse of information regarding the cult of the dead in ancient Scandinavia. It uses various archaeological and literary evidence regarding Scandinavian funeral customs in order to recreate their ideas about life after death, the soul of a person, the cult of the dead and the journey to the country of the dead.
