More than two thousand years ago, the Chinese told stories comparable in complexity to the myths of ancient Greece, but not at all similar to them. Intertwined with other religions and teachings - Taoism, Confucianism, Buddhism - ancient Chinese myths changed and acquired new motives and plots. Despite all the changes, these traditions never died and continue to amaze to this day. Liu explores the roots of these legends, popularized in the classics of the Han and Ming dynasties, and reveals a complex tradition that has been passed down from generation to generation for millennia.
