The book of the outstanding Ukrainian historian Yaroslav Dashkevich (1926-2010) contains articles, reviews and other works on important areas of Ukrainian historical science: source study and special historical disciplines. Research on these branches of historical knowledge is considered by the author as the basis for obtaining objective knowledge about the past and serves as a "professional workshop" for historians. Dashkevich published numerous intelligence on the source study of the history of Ukraine of medieval, early moderic and modern periods (a significant part of them concerns sources of eastern origin), as well as on genealogy, historical demography, heraldry, emblematics, vexidotology, sphragistics, historical iconography, historical geography, toponymy, historical cartography, cartography, archival studies, diplomacy, philigronology, history papers, metrology and other special historical disciplines.
