Gennady Aleksandrovich Savichev was born in 1926 in the Saratov region. His life has long been connected with the sea. He graduated from the Odessa Naval Special School and the Caspian Higher Naval School, served on the ships of the Black Sea Fleet. The first story was published in 1956 in the newspaper "Flag of the Motherland." Then his stories appeared in central newspapers, in the magazines "Soviet Warrior," "Soviet Sailor," "Crocodile." A collection of short stories "Sea Symphony" and the story "Dissertation of Lieutenant Shpilevoy" have been published. The stories included in this collection were written at different times. All of them are dedicated to the harsh, but full of inspired work and romance of the life of sailors. One of the stories - "Sapun is a high mountain" - was awarded the first prize at the All-Army Competition in honor of the twentieth anniversary of victory in the Great Patriotic War.
