Based on a wide range of documentary material, the new book by Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor V.M. Zaruba tells about one of the brightest pages in the history of Ukraine - the heroic struggle of its people against the expansion of the Ottoman Empire and the Crimean Khanate in the 70s of the XVII century, the culmination of which was the defense of Chigirin in 1677 and 1678. The military art of the then armed forces of Russia and Ukraine was revealed, the fighting under the Chigirin fortress was scrupulously considered and the role of the Ukrainian Cossack army in them was exhaustively shown.
