The theory of single-cavity open optical resonators widely used in quantum electronics is presented. Resonators containing internal optical elements and non-uniform medium are considered. Much attention is paid to applied methods for calculating the spatial, frequency and polarization characteristics of natural types of oscillations, as well as diffraction losses.
