At the end of 1967, the author had a chance, together with comrades Anatoly Chernyaev and Igor Rybalkin, employees of the Central Committee of the CPSU, to make one of those remarkable trips that happen infrequently and then remember for a long time: they flew to one of the most remote corners of the world from Moscow - Chile, to the congress of the socialist party. Traveling, in an old journalistic habit, he clicked his camera and kept a diary. This is how this story developed about a distant country of its own, about meetings with its people. As always in such cases, you regret that the meetings were too short, that there was not enough time or energy to gain more impressions, take a closer look at the new country, wander around its cities and villages longer.
