In 1976, the publishing house "Soviet Writer" published the story of the Moscow prose writer Yuri Paporov "Pilar," which told how in 1942-1944 Ernest Hemingway, who then lived in Cuba, together with several friends and assistants who made up the Pilar boat crew, organized the search and pursuit of Hitler's submarines in the waters of the Gulf of Mexico. The book "Hemingway in Cuba," documentary at its core, is dedicated to the entire Cuban period - the last twenty years of the life of an outstanding American writer - and was published in the first edition for the eightieth anniversary of the birth of E. Hemingway in 1979. The second edition of the book is substantially expanded and contains ten new chapters, the action of which is chronologically brought to the dramatic ending of the life of Ernest Hemingway.
