The new monograph by Russian-American writer and researcher, professor at Boston College Maxim D. Schraer analyzes in detail the creative path of leading representatives of Russian village prose Viktor Astafiev, Vasily Belov and Valentin Rasputin. Schraer's book shows how "hillbilly" writers actively spread both domestic and state forms of Soviet anti-Semitism. According to Schraer, the studied authors themselves caused the decline of Russian rustic prose by writing an anti-Semitic narrative into their literary works and public discursive statements.
