The poetic work of Ellis (L. L. Kobylinsky, 1879-1947) - an outstanding poet, translator, theorist of symbolism - is practically unknown to the modern reader. "Knight without treason," the only singer of Mary in Russian poetry, Ellis combined the seemingly incompatible - Dante and Baudelaire; the highest religious takeoff and "Flowers of Evil." "One of the most passionate early symbolists, a scattered poet, a brilliant man," wrote about Ellis M. Tsvetaev. The book includes both of Ellis's poetry collections "Stigmata" and "Argo" published at the beginning of the century, a collection of translations of "Immorteli" and fragments of the unreleased manuscript "Cross and Lyra," published in the Parisian magazine "Symbol."
