Easter Island is a knot of problems, perhaps the most confusing and insoluble in the entire history of Polynesia. Who were the people from whom these remnants of such a strikingly developed people come? When did they live? Where did you come from? Whose blood flows in their veins? Did they come from the coast of South America or really, as the old tradition says, from the sultry islands of Galapagos?
