Basic concepts of database theory, evolution of software data management systems are considered. The concept of a data model is given, as well as an overview of its varieties. The relational data model and basis means of manipulating relational data, relational calculus, Codd algebra, functional dependencies and lossless decomposition are described in detail. Attention is paid to the design of relational databases and approaches such as normalization, ER diagrams, semantic models.
