Kara expeditions are an interesting and poorly studied part of the history of the development of the Northern Sea Route and the Arctic as a whole. Started as purely trading, these expeditions made a huge contribution to the study of the Kara Sea, the formation of qualified personnel working in the Arctic seas, in the construction of new ports and villages in the Arctic.
