The review includes information on invertebrates and vertebrates. Various ways of distributing individuals in space are analyzed. Particular attention is paid to territorial behavior and its adaptive value. The question of the influence of all kinds of forms of sexual and family ties and long-term care of offspring on population structures is considered.
