This book is the first comprehensive attempt to explore the original identity, goals and context of the Wanderers movement. Given the best achievements of domestic and Western studies, the monograph for the first time reconciles two still mutually exclusive readings of the history of Wanderers in art science: marginal, socio-economic (commercial exhibition enterprise), and dominant, idealistic (altruistic, critical movement of realist artists), and shows how one, pragmatic, side of Wanderings allowed another, oppositional, civil.
