"My name is Maria, I am from France" - this is the only phrase that the great poetess of the late XII - early XIII centuries left about her descendants, and according to it in literary criticism since 1820, when her precious "Twelve Stories" were first published, she received a name. The fact that she arrived in England (where she lived at the court of King Henry II and Queen Allenor of Aquitaine) is evidenced only by her Breton dialect; the plots of her "stories" entirely belong to the world of Celtic history and mythology. For almost two hundred years, the book of Mary of France has been included in the treasury of European literature, but to this day only 3-4 stories have been published in Russian, moreover, in inaccessible publications. Veronica Dolina, who retold le Maria of France in Russian verses, opens the reader to the world of Breton legends, from which freshness still blows.
