The famous satirical chronicle novel "The History of a City" by M. E. Saltykov-Shchedrin in this edition is illustrated by portraits of stupid mayors made by Nikolai Remizov, Alexander Junger, Alexei Radakov and Alexander Yakovlev; these brilliant drawings were first published in 1907 as a separate album. The publication also includes nineteen tales by Saltykov-Shchedrin, including such well-known as "The Wise Gudgeon" and "Karas the Idealist." Drawings for fairy tales were made by Eugene Jacques and Boris Pokrovsky.
