During Alexander's lifetime and after his death in 323 BC, there were approximately 24 official mints in his domains stretching from Epirus to the Indus. Alexander imperial coins minted in different cities differed in appearance only in the presence of certain symbols, signs, emblems, letter abbreviations, monograms and even names entirely on the reverse. This work set the goal of the most complete identification of silver Alexander coins from the collection of the State Hermitage Museum by their belonging to a particular minting center and clarification of the periods of their issue. In addition to traditional numismatic methods, X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy was used to study the territorial-chronological differences in the composition of the alloy of coins.
