The book tells about the journey from Suez to Mosul, made by the German ethnographer and anthropologist E. Klippel in the early 1920s. Klippel, a connoisseur of Arab life who lived in Cairo for a long time, made this journey "under the guise of an Arab," posing as a rich Bedouin.
