Memoirs "In the Caucasus" by Field Marshal, military historian, professor of the Military Academy, an outstanding statesman and reformer, Minister of War of Emperor Alexander II Count D.A. Milyutin are part of the first seven-volume edition of his memoirs, which cover the period from 1816 to 1873. Volume "In the Caucasus. 1856-1860" stands out among others as a special theme, integrity, completeness of presentation and therefore is perceived as a separate independent book. The published volume reflects the time when Milyutin was the chief of the General Staff of the Caucasian Army under the governor Prince A.I. Baryatinsky - the time of the decisive stage of the Caucasian War, the conquest of Dagestan, Chechnya, the entire East Caucasus, the capture of Shamil.
