Peasant uprisings of the Civil War era occupy the most important place in the history of the formation of Soviet power, leaving a deep mark in the cultural memory of subsequent generations. Over the past hundred years, the accents and methods of describing peasant protests have changed radically several times - from the official Soviet interpretation of speeches as "kulak-Socialist-Revolutionary rebellions" to the romanticization of rebels during perestroika. Bolshevik censorship and the gradual disappearance of the village world led to the fact that the history of popular demonstrations of those years was told mainly by "other people's voices." This collective monograph explores the peculiarities of preserving and transmitting the memory of these events. What processes related to monuments and places of commemoration have taken place over the past hundred years? How were oral memories transmitted from older generations to younger ones? How has private and family memory changed during this time? What impact does mass culture have on the historical memory of the uprising? The authors cover the answers to these questions using the example of the Tambov and West Siberian uprisings and a number of other speeches. Many memoirs, interviews and archival documents used by authors are introduced into scientific circulation for the first time.
