Research by N. I. Veselovsky is dedicated to Nogai, one of the most influential temniks of the Golden Horde. At the head of the troops of Khan Berke, he repeatedly made campaigns against Hulagu and his successors. After Berke's death, Nogai controlled a huge territory from the Don to the Danube. Nogai left a major mark in the history of the Golden Horde, and therefore in the history of Russia. The name of Nogai later began to be called the people of the Nogais. With his intrigues, he caused unrest in the Horde, which eventually undermined the strength of the Tatars and helped the Russian princes throw off the Tatar yoke.
