English writer Michael Bond was born in Berkshire on January 13, 1926. During the war he served in aviation. Bond began writing in 1945 and sold his first story to "London Opinion" magazine. In 1958, having written a large number of plays and stories by that time and working as a television cameraman at the BBC, Michael Bond published his first story about Paddington - Paddington Bear. By 1965, the writer had already published a series of stories about a restless bear cub and decided to leave his job at the BBC and become a professional writer. Now the writer lives in London, near Paddington station, he is married, he has two adult children. In 1997, the writer received the Order of the British Empire for his contribution to children's literature. On July 6, 2007, Michael Bond became a doctor of literature at the University of Reading.
